Julia Ernestine Short

Julia Short, or "Ernie" as she was known to her close friends and family, was born on July 9, 1929 to Alonzo Coleman Ray and Ella Loraine (Moore) Ray.

On September 23, 1948, Ernie married Alonzo Miller Short, Jr. They spent 56 happy years together in this world, and on November 23, 2013, Ernie joined him in Heaven.

Al and Ernie had two (2) children of their own and raised two of their grandchildren. Ernie loved taking care of her family, and was always busy doing things for them. She especially enjoyed showering her great-grandchildren with her love and affection. She loved attending events that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were participating in. Ernie loved to cook and was always willing to feed anyone who passed through her home.

Her family and friends could always count on her if they needed anything. Ernie would go out of her way to help anyone who needed it. She was a giving, warm, loving and compassionate woman that will be greatly missed.

Ernie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al, four brothers and three sisters.

Ernie is survived by her companion, Gus Delgadillo, her children Gary (Jackie) Short and Vickie (Jerry) Clem; her grandchildren: Kristy (Stacey) Ferguson, Arron (Janette) Wilkes, Kandi (Chris) Segretti, Jared (Amy) Short, Angela (Bronson) Gray, Jennifer (Jayna) Short, Morgan Short, Heath (Lila) Short; 13 great-grandchildren, including Sierra, Courtney, Ashlee, Dominic, Anthony, Giovanni, and Adrianna; 1 great- great – grandchild; her brother Joe Ray, Sr., her sister Olean Sloan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Norvel Owens Mortuary on Monday, December 2nd at 1:30 p.m. with graveside services to follow.
