Irvin Deutscher Resident of Lafayette Irvin Deutscher a longtime resident of Lafayette passed away July 27, 2007 at the age of 85. He was born February 6, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was 11. Irvin lived in Brooklyn through his school years attending Erasmus Hall High School and New York City College. In 1942 joined the Air Force and served as an officer in the Flying Tigers out of Burma. Returning to California in 1946, he married Ludell in 1947 and opened his first real estate company in Berkeley. Then in 1950, the Irvin Deutscher Real Estate Company was established in Pleasant Hill. At the time of his death he had invested 61 years of development in Contra Costa County. Irvin and Lucy spent much of their last 35 years together traveling the world, visiting more than 90 countries. He was an avid tennis player, enjoyed tending to his birds, and spending time with his family. Irvin touched many lives with his strength and generosity. He had an extraordinary life and was always a gentleman. His brother, Jerome "Jerry" Deutscher preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Deutscher; sons, Clifford and David Deutscher; grandchildren, Stephanie Rudy Ybarra, Chelsea and Graham Deutscher; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Dominic Ybarra; first wife, Ludell; sister-in-law, Bernice Deutscher; nephews, Phillip, Jeffrey and Todd Deutscher; and longtime companion, Lucile Ritchie. Memorial services will be held in the Plaza of the 370 Civic Drive in Pleasant Hill on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Irvin Deutscher Family YMCA of Pleasant Hill. Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel (925) 934-5400.
