As a child Bernice attended Junior High School 129 and later attended Brooklyn High School of Homemaking in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1946, Bernice met Ernest Risbrook shortly before he enlisted in the Army and was deployed to Guam. Three years later after Ernest returned from the Army they were married on March 19, 1949 in St Peter Claver Catholic Church in Brooklyn NY.
During their marriage, Bernice and Ernest were blessed with five sons: Ernest Jr, Steven, Alan, Gregory, and Glenn. After taking time to raise her children, Bernice began working at the U.S. Post Service. She later worked at Manufactures Hanover Bank and finally after working for over 25 years for the US Government at the Defense Logistics Agency, she retired having received many distinguished awards during her career.
Bernice spent her leisure time gardening, contributing to many charitable organiztions, keeping abreast of world events, and following sporting events, especially when it comes to the Wiliams Sisters and Tiger Woods.
Bernice was preceded in passing by her son Steven and her husband Ernest. Bernice leaves behind in morning: four sons , daughter-in-laws, nine grandchildren: Tawanda ,Shaniqua, Jessica, Emmanuel, Paris, Darnell, Shawnelle, Shannon and Quentin, four great-grandchildren; her sister Sarah Jones, two sister-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
