Joseph Martin Coppi passed away on October 29, 2013 at a local hospital by natural causes. "Joe" is survived by his wife Marsha Faye Coppi, his brother Stephen Dominic Coppi and his two sons: Anthony John Coppi and Richard Michael Coppi. Joe had four grandchildren: Joseph Michael Coppi, Olivia Lee Coppi, Vincent Thomas Coppi, and Lila Sharmay Coppi. Joe also had five step-grandchildren: Sabrina Angilee Patch, Cooper James Patch, Felicity Marie Patch, Sean Ryan Clark, and Kenley Rose Martinez. Joe is preceded in death by his parents Nell Francis Coppi and Anthony Coppi.

Joseph Martin Coppi was born on September 15, 1945 at Alhambra Hospital in the City of Alhambra. He was the second son born to Nell and Anthony Coppi. Joe grew up in a working class family in Monterey Park, California and went to Mark Kepple High School in the City of Alhambra. Joe was a member of a local rock and roll band, the Ali-Kats, during the 1960's and played the drums. Shortly after graduating high school, Joe joined the California Army National Guard and served his country. He married his high school sweetheart Cheryl Ferraro and they had two sons, Anthony and Richard, while living briefly in San Gabriel and then settling in Cerritos.

In 1971 Joe became a Police Officer for the City of Los Angeles. He was a decorated Police Officer, receiving both the "Officer of the Year" Award and a "Life Saving" Award. He was an aggressive "street cop" and met many of his lifelong friends at LAPD. After retiring from the LAPD, Joe eventually moved to the City of La Habra. Joe met the love of his life, Marsha, while living in La Habra and they married in 1996.

Those who remember Joe will remember a man who had an infectious enthusiasm about life and loved to be surrounded by family and friends. Joe was very passionate about good food, good wine, and having a good time. He was the type of man that was content being around the people he loved while enjoying a nice cigar, a good glass of wine or a "frigid" martini. He loved to karaoke with his family and friends and was often the center of a good party. He enjoyed muscle cars, having owned a few of them throughout his lifetime.

Everyone who knew Joe will miss him dearly, and mourn his passing. However, his family and friends are comforted knowing he has been called up to heaven by God, and is now living in eternity by his side. Until we meet again… "Drink the good wine."

The following two passages were selected by Joe and were dear to his heart:

When I leave you, don't weep for me. Pass the wine around and remember how my laughing pleased you. Look at one another, smiling and don't forget about touching. Sing the songs that I loved best and dance one time together.

As for me, I'll be off, running somewhere on the beach and I'll fly to the top of a tree I always meant to climb. When you're ready, I'll be there waiting for you. Take your time.

When I'am gone

When I come to the end of my journey, and I travel to my last weary mile, just forget, if you can, that I ever frowned and remember only the smile. Forget unkind words I have spoken; Remember some good I have done. Forget that I ever had heartache and remember I've had loads of fun. Forget that I've stumbled and blundered and sometimes fell along the way. Remember I have fought some hard battles and won, ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going, I would not have you sad for a day. But in the summer just gather some flowers and remember the place where I lie, and come in the shade of the evening when the sun paints the sky in the west. Stand for a few moments beside me and remember only my best.
