Katherine Hanks was born Aug. 7, 1909, in Lakeview, the daughter of James and Dorothy Hanks. She moved to Mason County as a child, where she grew up and attended school. She was married to William Edward Murphy and he preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1952. She was later married on Feb. 16, 1960, to Roy Pleiness, and he preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1995. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville.
Surviving are two brothers, Edward Hanks of Ludington, and Claude (and Lois) Hanks of Wisconsin; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Rahn of Scottville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husbands, William and Roy, her parents, and one brother, Harold (and Esther) Hanks.
Services for Mrs. Pleiness will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville with the Rev. James Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in Center Riverton Cemetery.
The family will be at the church to receive friends from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
