Allen S. Whitehead, 56, of Percy, died Wednesday in Memorial Hospital in Chester where he had been a patient four days. Mr. Whitehead, a miner, was born Jan. 27, 1909 in Tunnel Hill, the son of Allen and Rebecca Goddard Whitehead. He was married Dec. 8, 1928, in Pinckneyville, to Edra Buescher. Mr. Whitehead was an employee of Southwestern Coal Corp. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Alma Masonic Lodge of Steeleville, the Eagles Lodge of Murphysboro, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Dale Deppe of Percy; brothers, Dolph, Alma and Robert, all of Marion; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Lipe of Marion, and Mrs. Mary Stalion of Creal Springs; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wesley Methodist Church in Percy. Rev. Robert Souders will officiate. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Percy.
