William Edward Hedrick, 87, of Abb Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 5, 2010, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of three weeks. The oldest of 12 children, he was born in Davidson County to the late Roy Edward and Ada Branson Hedrick and was married for 65 years to the late Pauline Violet Hackett Hedrick. William was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church for over 65 years, where he served as trustee, deacon emeritus, and advisor for the usher board. He retired from P. Lorillard after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Billy Burke of Elon and Valetta and Paul Perkins of Burlington; sons and daughters-in-law, Colen and Kay Hedrick of Gibsonville and C.O. and Donna Hedrick of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Shannon Hedrick of Gibsonville, Tracy and Phil Roof of Gibsonville, Matthew and Shannon Hedrick of Gibsonville, Michelle and Larry Kincer of Burlington, Marcia and Stephen Gordon of Burlington, Paula and Kevin King of Elon and Kevin Burke of Elon; great-grandchildren, Kendall, McKenzie and Greysen Hedrick, Madelyn Roof, Gerald, Jacob and Joey Kincer, Preston and Nikolas Melton, and Burke King; step-great-grandchildren, Zane Kincer, Autumn James, and Stephen, David, Brendan and Derrek Gordon; siblings, Margie Hamm of Greensboro, Thurman Hedrick of Brown Summit, Lillie Southern of Stokesdale, Grady Hedrick of Virginia, Howard Hedrick of Greensboro, Polly Brewer of Pennsylvania and Grace Finch of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Rosie Porter, Fletcher, Olen and Tom Hedrick.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert and the Rev. Don Ledbetter with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
