Nola Kate Ball Nelson, 92, died peacefully at the Arbor on October 25th, 2013. A service of celebration of her life will be at 12 noon on Monday, October 28 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral home on Highland Colony in Ridgeland, MS, with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at Lakewood in Jackson.

Kate was born in Louin, MS, in February of 1921. She attended Woman's College in Hattiesburg (now William Carey) and graduated from Mississippi College in 1942. She married Arthur L Nelson, whom she met while he was stationed at the Jackson Army Air Base in 1943. They were charter members of Broadmoor Baptist Church where she was in leadership positions in Sunday School and WMU and also worked in kindergarten. After Broadmoor moved to Madison, she joined Colonial Heights where she was an active member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her retirement years at the Orchard.

Kate was preceded in death by her husband Art, her parents, Grover and Idell Ball, her brother, Howard, her sister, Bonnie, and her son, Thomas R.
Kate is survived by one daughter, Ruth K. Keyes (Sam) of Ridgeland, and four sons: Robert E. Nelson of Tucson, Arizona, Donald A. Nelson (Rachel) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, William H. Nelson (Teresa) of Jackson, and James C. Nelson (Frances) of Madison, one brother, William Edward, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Kate loved all of her family and friends very much and will be missed greatly. Special thanks to her wonderful caretakers at the Arbor, plus Etta Mae Barnett, Diane Jackson, Annie Ragsdale, and Karen McGivney who gave her special care in her last months.
