Andy attended Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, he lettered in football, basketball and track and was elected MVP of his high school football and basketball teams, and set a state record for throwing discus in track.
In 1960 he was recruited by the University of Washington to play football for the Huskies. Highlights were being on the 1961 Rose Bowl Team which was declared the National Football Champions and being chosen a team co-captain in his junior year. Andy started his family and married Merrilyn Will while in college and graduated in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
In 1967, he began his career working for his father-in-law, Merril F. Will of Will Construction, a well-regarded Northwest Regional General Contractor. Later becoming a partner and President of the company. He was well respected and well liked in the business and retired in 2003.
He is survived by his children, Merri-Anne Newsham-Smith (John), Edmonds, WA, Amy Alkire, Los Angeles, and Brian Alkire, Issaquah, WA; and grandsons, Nicholas and Kyle Hola and Adrian Smith, Edmonds, WA. Also survived by brothers, Gary (Elizabeth) and Bill (Arlene) Alkire; sister-in-law Jeanne Will, Mukilteo, WA; and brother-in-law Marshall Will (Jean) Stanwood, WA, as well as nieces and nephews, Cheryl Alkire, Robbie (Timber) Alkire, John (Jennifer) Alkire, Paul (Andie) Alkire, Katie Oliver (Jason Jim) Alkire, Wendy Martin and Mike (Rachel) Will. He is also survived by his friend and former wife, Merrilyn Alkire.

A gravesite service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Santa Rosa, CA at the Calvery Catholic Cemetery at 2930 Bennett Valley Rd. A reception for family and friends (old and new) will follow at his brother and sister-in-law's home in Santa Rosa, Ca.
