Musician. He began his career as bluegrass guitar flat picker performing on a local radio program with a band called the Three Little Country Boys in 1958. In late 1962, the Country Boys became the Kentucky Colonels, which played many venues until White found employment as a session guitarist in Los Angeles in the mid 1960s. There he gathered a close association with the popular folk rock group The Byrds and was their lead guitarist from 1968 until his death. He also was a co-inventor of the Parsons-White B string bender device used on Telecaster guitars. In 2003, White was ranked #41 on Rolling Stones Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and The Gibson Guitar Company ranked him at #42 on their Top 50 Guitarists of All Time list.
