Captain Casey Karl Davis, United States Army Reserve, a beloved husband, father, uncle, brother and friend passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013. He was 52 years old.

Born in Elgin, IL August 25, 1960 to Harriet and Richard Davis, Casey was raised in Palatine and Rolling Meadows, IL before moving to Murphy, NC in 1977. He graduated Murphy High School in 1979 and Western Carolina University in 1983.

Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve in May 1981, Casey served on active duty with the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg and in the Army Reserve with the 108th Division in Brevard, NC and 100th division in Knoxville, TN. As an Army Captain, Casey deployed to Archidona, Ecuador in South America in 1987 as part of a humanitarian mission to rebuild the earthquake ravaged country. Casey continued to serve in the Army Reserves through 1996.

On June 18, 1994, Casey married Jeanne Coker, his wife of 19 years. Together they raised two lovely daughters. It was the family that Casey was most proud of and forever held closest. Over the years they resided in North Carolina, Overland Park and Olathe, Kansas and Atlanta, Georgia before returning to Hayesville, NC. For the last seven years he has been an accomplished businessman with Calhoun Management Corp. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Civitan International, the American Legion Post 532, Hayesville and VFW Post 6812 (Allison Bristol).

Casey is survived by his wife, Jeanne Coker Davis; two daughters, Sydney Kasey Davis and Katherine Alexa Davis both of Hayesville; his mother, Harriet McCarr Davis of Overland Park, KS; seven siblings: Michael Davis (wife, Doreen) of Brooksville, FL, Mary Schoneman of Bloomington,IL, Elizabeth "Bette" Rackauskas (husband, Dr. Gregory) of Bloomington, IL, Theresa "Terri" Kerwin (husband, Rick) of Antioch, IL, Lieutenant Colonel (US Army, Ret) Patrick Davis (wife, Elizabeth) of Overland Park, KS, Kelly Davis (wife, Deborah) of Overland Park, KS, and Kathleen Barr (husband, Eric) of Olathe, KS; and many nieces and nephews. Casey was preceded in death by his father, Lieutenant Colonel (USMC) Richard Karl Davis, who died December 27, 2011.

A wake was held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville. A private family visitation and Rosary was held at 6:30pm with an open visitation from 7:00 – 9:00pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:00pm Saturday, June 8, 2013 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hayesville, NC, with Father George Kloster and Rev. Jackie Sellers officiating. Interment was in the Hayesville First United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Murphy American Legion Post 96, VFW Post 10222, DAV Chapter 73, Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol), American Legion Post 532, and the US Army Honors Detail, Fort Bragg, NC. Pallbearers were John Coker, Dr. Gregory Rackauskas, Gregory Dills, and Michael, Patrick, and Kelly Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Casey Karl Davis to his children, Sydney Kasey Davis and Katherine Alexa Davis at any branch of North Carolina State Employees Credit Union or mailed to PO Box 1038, Murphy, NC 28906.
