Mary Ann Leona Pigott Brown, a resident of Gore Community for 64 years, went to be with our Lord on Sunday (May 31, 2009) at 6 a.m. at her residence. Her passing was due to a lengthy illness of Parkinson's and Lewy Body Diseases.

She was born at Brown, Oct. 29, 1925, at her grandmother's home, a daughter of the late Walter Albert and Lena Rivers Swiger Pigott. On Jan. 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Vance Brown, whom preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1976. She met Vance, who was from Orlando, W.Va., while he was visiting his aunt on Little Elk.

Mrs. Brown was also preceded in death by one son, Bradley Wane Brown on Sept. 17, 2007; four sisters, Helen Radabaugh, Kathleen Scranage, Ruth Pigott and one in infancy.

After attending Wallace School, Mary went to work at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio, repairing airplane engines during World War II. She was very proud of her job and talked of it often. She also worked for several years for the Election Board.

Mary was very active in her church, Christ Church United Methodist in Adamston. She also sat with the elderly in the Clarksburg area.

Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, Route 19 South, Shinnston, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, June 3, with Rev. Ron Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Brown family.
