|About 1828 to 1829, the Old City Cemetery was established on Quality Hill, which is located between High Street and Dodge Street. Some that were interred in the Old Cemetery were later moved to the New City Cemetery, now known as Greenwood. Duplications of burial names between the two cemeteries are a problem for researchers. In addition, old cemetery records were not complete and not very accurate. Many graves never had any markers, and the location of the burial was indicated as being so many feet from a known stone, tree or fence. Of course many of these landmarks have long since disappeared. The few remaining headstones are weather worn, broken or laying on the ground. The Old City Cemetery looks more like a park than a cemetery. Entrance to the cemetery is from a small gate which is located on Dodge Street. No vehicle traffic is allowed within. The decimal GPS coordinates are: 42.41851 and -90.43171.|
