Judge D.M. Risdon owned the first house within the Eugene, OR city limits. He started life a a school teacher in Stark County, IL but soon went to Peoria to study law. He was admitted to the IL state bar in 1849. He moved west and settled in the Willamette Valley, OR. He was at once admitted to the bar in Oregon and served as attorney and counsellor in Lane County. He appears to have been the first lawyer in the city of Eugene.He served in the Territorial Legislature in 1851-52 prior to the admission of Oregon to statehood. He subsequently was County Superior Court Judge and School Superintendent of Lane County. He was married to Pauline Wright and their children were Ella and Augustus Risdon.
