Rachel M. Baker
Rachel Matney Baker, 99, of 149 Keith Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Buchanan County and attended Grundy High. She secured a teaching certificate from Radford Normal Institute, and taught in Buchanan County schools and Mountain Mission School.
She worked as a postal clerk in Haysi and was active in the community and Presbyterian Church.
She moved to Bristol in 1964 and was an active member of the Meadowview Church and the organizations for handicap people.
She was the widow of Ireland Baker.
Survivors include a son, Elmer Ross Baker, of the home; a grandson; two granddaughters; three sisters, Daisy Matney and Josephine Matney, both of Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Adren (Marjorie) Stiltner, Salem, Va.; three brothers, E.H. Matney, Bristol, John Matney, Springlake Heights, N.J., and Warren Matney, Grundy; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
