Singer, Songwriter. Born Deborah Ann Brown to a teen-aged mother in Los Angeles, she was raised in Canoga Park and Agoura Hills, California. She graduated from Agoura High School in 1980. At 18 she left home, and often lived on the streets. Eventually she earned a living dancing while she put together a punk band; unusual in that she was one of the very few women to front a punk group. Influenced by glam and metal, the goth-punk band, Red Scare, toured most of the US in support of the LP, “Then There Were None,” on Upstart Records in 1983. That same year, she appeared in a bit role in the feature film, “Suburbia.” In 1985 she put together Bobbi and the Boneyard Brats, a country punk band which played the LA clubs as well as the Palace and Olympic Auditorium. From there she and the band morphed into the Bobbi Brat Band, and by 1987 they were the house band at the Coconut Teazer club. “Music Connection Magazine” chose her as Top Club Draw for 1987, and “LA Weekly” nominated her for Best Country Artist. She would also appear in bit roles in the films “3:15” (1986), the short, “Martini Ranch: Reach” (1988) and “The Runnin' Kind” (1989). She was diagnosed with an abdominal blood clot in 1987, but prescribed treatment was unsuccessful. She continued to perform throughout her treatment. When an ectopic pregnancy led to a hysterectomy the following year, the so-called blood clot was revealed as a malignant tumor and a diagnosis of ovarian adenocarcinoma. The cancer was systemic by the time the correct diagnosis was made. She was allowed to return home, but after a seizure some three months later, was rushed back to the hospital where she succumbed to the illness. She was called tough, kind, talented, warm, selfless, funny, humble, loving, brutally honest, and an incredible singer. According to Len Fagen, booking director at the Coconut Teaszer, “She could have been one of the all-time greats.”
