Dr. Gilbert D. Harris, Ph.D. -
Son of Francis Eugene Harris, of Vermont, and Lydia Helen Crandall, of New York. Emeritis professor of Palentology and Straitgraphic Geology, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He was the founder and trustee of the Palenthology Research Institute. He was one of the worlds leading authorities on Pelecypods. In 1936 he was president of the Paleonthological Society of America. In 1937 he was vice president of the Geological Society of America. He was a member of the Geological Society of France, Switzerland, and Germany. He died at his home in Ithaca, New York, on 4 December 1952. He was predeceased by his wife Clara (Stoneman) Harris, and survived by their daughter, Rebecca Stoneman Harris, of Ithaca, New York. Services were held December 6, 1952, at 11 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home, with a private burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
