Robert Frederick Parker, Jr., 77, of Rawlsdale Road, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, in Smithfield, at the home of his daughter. Born in Capron and raised in the Franklin area, Bobby was a son of the late Robert Frederick Parker and Lillian Lamb Parker and was predeceased by his former wife, Jean.
Bobby is survived by his son Robert Frederick Parker, III, of Henderson, NC, and daughter Megan Parker Sanders, and her husband Kenneth of Smithfield, his brothers Benjamin Franklin (Frankie) Parker, and his wife Catherine of Franklin, and Clyde Elwood Parker of Franklin. He is also survived by his friend Carolyn Willman.
He is survived by his grandsons Patrick, Garrett and Ryan Parker of Henderson, and granddaughter and grandson Addison and Hayden Sanders of Smithfield.
A veteran of the United States Army, Bobby was retired from Union Camp Corporation. He later was employed by Johnson Auto Parts until his recent illness.
In the past, he was a volunteer with the City of Franklin Fire Department and Rescue Squad. At Franklin High School, he was a standout football player, playing center. And, he was in the Explorer Scouting program. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church.
One of his favorite pastimes was to attend auctions, especially those held at AMark Auction House in Courtland.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 30, at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home. The Reverend Tim Piland of Nansemond River Baptist Church and the Reverend Charles Chappell, Chaplain with Bon Secours, will conduct the services. A visitation will be held on Thursday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Franklin Baptist Church or the City of Franklin Fire and Rescue Squad. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
