KANNAPOLIS Major Helen Henthorn Case, 83, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Big Elm Nursing Center, in Kannapolis. There will not be any local services. A private entombment will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, in Avon Park, Fla. Helen was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was a daughter of the late Virgil Henthorn and Mable Carder Henthorn. She graduated from The Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta, Ga. A major with the Salvation Army, she retired in 1991, from Sebring, Fla. and she had formerly served in Concord, from 1965 to 1972. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Nicholas Case Jr. in 2010; and two sisters, Martha Varney and Barbara Varney. Helen is survived by two daughters, Connie Case Sheets and husband, H.W. Jr., of Mooresville and Ruth Anne Case Fetz and husband, Buddy, of Kannapolis; one son, Everett Nicholas "Nick" Case III and wife, Petra, of Winchester, Va.; sister, Betty Henthorn Watson, of Concord; four grandchildren, Katie Matthews, Colter Matthews, Josh Case and wife, Emily, and Nikki Griffith Deal and husband, Jason; one great-granddaughter, Isla Case; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Big Elm Nursing Center, the Rev. Joey Spry and Ann Hartzog, for all of their love, care and support given to Helen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Salvation Army Concord, NC Social Services, 216 Patterson Ave. NE, Concord, NC 28025. Remembrances may be sent to the family at www.ladysfuneralhome. com.
