Las Vegas Daily Optic (New Mexico) Funeral Service on Sept 9, 1954
Impressive funeral services for Reverend Artie Lee Maddox, former State Evangelist of the Las Vegas,' Baptist Church who died Sunday night, were conducted this morning in the Chapel of the Johnsen Memorial Mortuary. Reverend John W. Ransdell, pastor, of the First Baptist Church, officiated at the services. Members of the Masonic Order attended the funeral in a body and conducted the ritualistic services of the Order at the grave. Members of his Tucumcari lodge of Masons, where Reverend Maddox held his Masonic membership, served as pallbearers. Robert L. Maddox. his son, and Mrs. Maddox of Houston, Tex.. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Ansley. of Mesilla Park. N. M., and Forest J. Wright of Cleveland, Tex., were present for the funeral service. A beautiful floral offering sent by Rev. Maddox' friends from different places adorned the Chapel. Karl Moltman accompanied by Mrs. E. C. Israel on the pipe organ, sang two solos. "Rock of Ages" BIK! "The Sweet Bye and Bye." Burial took place in the family plot in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, beside the remains of Mrs. Maddox, who died in 1930.
