Elsie Schenck Adams, 89, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Carlisle, where she lived for 60 years, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va.
Born Jan. 23, 1919, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Simms Schenck and the widow of John Irby Adams.
Mrs. Adams was a graduate of Jamaica High School in New York and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's degree in library science from Shippensburg University. Elsie taught third grade at Hamilton Elementary School in Carlisle for 15 years.
She was a member of Allison United Methodist Church and the Travelers Club, both of Carlisle.
Surviving are two sons, John B. Adams of Folkston, Ga., and William D. Adams of Murrysville; a daughter, Karen M. Adams of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Helen I. Schenck of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Schenck.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Herring officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.
