Mrs. Cassettari died Tuesday, Nov. 5, at home. She was 88.
She was born July 7, 1914, in Nevada City to Domenick and Guilia Alaria. She was raised and attended school in Nevada City, graduating from Nevada City High School in 1932. She attended Mount St. Mary’s Academy in Grass Valley. She married Martin Cassettari in 1948.
Mrs. Cassettari worked for Bank of America for 17 years. She was elected Nevada City treasurer in 1952 and served until being elected city clerk. She retired from that position in 1980.
She was a past president and a 50-plus-year member of the Laurel Parlor, Native Daughters of the Golden West; a district deputy, deputy grand president, charter member, past president and delegate of Soroptimist International of Nevada City; a past president of Nevada City Fire Auxiliary; and a member of Retired Public Employees. She was secretary to the Nevada City Library Board for many years and a longtime docent at the Nevada City Firehouse Museum. She was a lifelong member of St. Canice Catholic Church.
She enjoyed traveling, her garden and volunteer activities.
She is survived by her son, Terry Cassettari of Nevada City; granddaughter, Emma; twin sister, Angie Falconi of Nevada City; nephews and nieces-in-law Bill and Lorre Falconi of Nevada City and John and Lonnie Falconi of Incline Village, Nev.; niece and nephew-in-law, Pauline and Tony Dyke of Auburn; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews Sean Falconi, Celesta Cairns, and Joseph and Tiffany Dyke.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada City Fire Department or St. Canice Catholic Church.
