Major League Baseball Player. For eight seasons (1957 to 1964), he was a pitcher with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. Born Glen Frederick Hobbie, he attended Witt High School in Illinois, prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Cubs in 1955. He marked his Major League debut as a late season call-up on September 20th, 1957 and appeared in 2 games that year. The following season (1958), he split time between the Cubs' starting rotation and bullpen, as he yielded the first of three consecutive double-digit win years (10 in 1958, 16 in 1959 and 16 in 1960). In 1960, he lost a league-leading 20 decisions and failed to produce a .500 record for the remainder of his career. However after he was acquired by the Cardinals during the 1964 season, he experienced playing for a world championship team that year, as he pitched in 13 games with St. Louis. In 284 regular season games, he compiled a 62 win 81 loss record with a 4.20 lifetime ERA in 1,263 innings pitched. After retiring from baseball, he worked as a plant supervisor for the Roller Derby Skate Company.
