C.W. Andrus Lost During Elk Hunt In Coast Range
A searching party left early this morning for the Williams Creek district in the Coast Range, where C.W. Andrus, 76, of Roseburg was reported to be missing from his party engaged in an elk hunt. He accompanied his son, Pat Andrus and Buster Shrum on the trip Monday morning. He left the camp about two hours before sundown to bring water and had not been seen since, according to reports received here. Five of his sons living in Roseburg headed a group of searchers leaving town early today in an effort to locate him.

Searchers Still Without Trace Of C.W. Andrus
Hope of finding Andrus alive has been abandoned, Carter said, as it was not believed he could survive the wet and cold for such a long period of time. Heavy undergrowth and deep ferns make it doubtful if the body of the elderly man would be found except by chance, the Sheriff reported.

Andrus Search Aided By Improved Weather
Relatives and friends reported they planned to continue to search until snow flies. It is assumed the elderly man suffered a heart attack.

Charles' body was never recovered.
