Linda Pyles sent me a copy of Ruth's High School Diploma, showing she graduated from Highland Park High School, in Highland Park, Michigan, on June 6, 1935. I know that Ruth attended high school in Lake Worth, Florida, and I thought she had graduated from high school there. Apparently however, she had returned to Michigan some time before this and finished at Highland Park High School. I know her grandparents Annie and Jesse returned from Florida to Michigan before Jesse died in December of 1935. Ruth must have come back about the same time, perhaps with her grandmother Annie. She must have been living with them in the house at 201 Farrand Park, Highland Park, Michigan. This was the house where Jesse and Annie had lived in during the 1920's, before they moved to Florida, and was by 1935 was owned by Ruth's aunt and uncle, Min and Pete Dillman.- RW

Linda Pyles sent me a copy of Ruth's Bachelor of Science in Education Degree, from The Southeast Missouri State Teachers College, in Cape Girdeau, Missouri. She received this degree on May 19, 1941. I know that Ruth had earlier attended and completed Palm Beach Junior College in Palm Beach County, Florida. I do not know when she graduated from this college, but believe it was before she was married.- RW

Linda also sent me a copy of another Certificate of Marriage for Ruth and Melvin, this was one from the Shrine of the Little Flower Church in Royal Oak, Michigan. It was dated August 23, 1955. This was the church her mother Adelaide was a member of, and presumably she had been the motivating factor behind this second marriage ceremony.- RW

Ruth Royce Wagner

Mrs. Wagner, 71 years old, of 717 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach died Sunday, September 17, 1989 after and extended illness. Mrs. Wagner had been a winter visitor to the Palm Beach area since 1928 and a resident of West Palm Beach since 1943, coming here from Detroit, Michigan. A retired school teacher, Mrs. Wagner taught at Rosarian Academy for 7 years prior to entering the Palm Beach Public School System, where she taught special education until her retirement in 1984. She was a graduate of Palm Beach Junior College Class of 1936, Southeast Missouri State University where she received he B.S. in Education and Florida Atlantic University where she received her M.E. in Special Education. Mrs. Wagner was a member of St. Juliana's Catholic Church, West Palm Beach. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world and the U.S.A.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years. Melvin L. Wagner, West Palm Beach, Fla., three sons, M. Richard Wagner, Stephen P. Wagner and Christopher M. Wagner, all of Lake Worth, Fla. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Linda Royce Pyles, Woodinville, Washington and her four grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Pyles and John Adam Pyles of Woodinville, Washington, and Catalina Huneeus and Francesca Huneeus of Lake Worth, Fla. Additional survivors include five brothers, James Waggener and William Waggener, Detroit, Michigan, Gerald Waggener, Los Angeles, Calif., Robert Waggener, San Francisco, Calif. and Jack Waggener, West Palm Beach. Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Betty Elphick, Baton Rouge, La. and Mrs Margaret Hoban, Santa Rosa, Florida.

Friends may call at Quattlebaum-Holleman-Burse Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach on Tuesday, September 19, 1989 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Julian's Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 20, 1989 at 9:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach, Fla. In lieu of flowers those who wish to make contributions to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
