Edward Scism died Sunday at his home in this village after an illness lasting several months. He was in the seventy-ninth year of his age. He was born on Columbia county near Union Corners, a son of the late Peter and Hannah Scism. He has lived in Rhinebeck for the past thirty years and was employed by Louis Rosenkranz during practically the entire time. Surviving him are his wife, one son, Carroll Scism of Red Hook and two daughters, Mrs Loren Barton of Red Hook and Mrs Sterling Van Wagner of Amenia. He is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Scism were married fifty-three years last January. Three years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home here. Mr Scism was a member of the Lutheran church at Manorton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at his late home, the Rev. Jonas Inman officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at Red Hook.
