Born in New York City, New York, she appeared in six Hollywood films, of which the best remembered are "Duel in the Sun" and Hitchcock's "The Paradine Case", as well as in ten plays on Broadway, notably "I Remember Mama" in the role of Katrin, opposite Oscar Homolka and (in his Broadway debut) Marlon Brando, and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as the Nurse, with Kirk Douglas and Gene Wilder. Her first husband was John E. Mosman, a radio producer. After their divorce, she married Oscar Homolka in 1949. She retired from the screen after their move to England in 1962, but continued to appear on the London stage, including a long run in Sir Alan Ayckbourn's "How the Other Half Loves", opposite Robert Morley. Three months after her death from pneumonia, her husband suffered a fatal heart attack.
