Paul was born and raised in Sand Mountain of Dade County, Missouri. His parents were Jonathan Arthur and Mamie Adelia (Carlock) McConnell. He was known as Eugene and sometimes "Gene" by his family and close friends in the community.

He was a World War II Veteran and spent time in Korea and Germany. He married Mildred Irene Vaughn on September 26, 1953. Born to this union were Paula Irene and Danny Eugene McConnell.

They lived in Belton, Missouri where he was employed at the Bendix Corporation until his retirement. Eugene loved to fish and hunt. While growing up, he and his nephew Cletis McConnell practically lived together and enjoying the many adventures in Sand Mountain. Through these outdoor adventures, they honed their survival skills in the wilderness.

Eugene loved listening to the Grand Ol' Opry on Friday and Saturday nights. He loved playing snooker and always looked forward to returning to Greenfield on the weekends to be with family. He loved photography and had a passion for archery.

The fish fry's and old stories about he and Cletis McConnell (my father) were memorable. They both should have been grounded for life for pulling pranks on each other such as the time he and Cletis were at Shaw Bluff and Cletis went under water, coming up on the opposite side of the boat making Eugene believe that Cletis drowned. Or the time, Eugene was talking and Cletis threw a worm into Eugene's mouth (and he swallowed it) or shooting quarters from each others hands with a .22 rifle.

Both were excellent marksmen even at rock chuck'n. When he was younger, he has hit many quail in flight with a good number 9 throwing rock. They knew Turnback Creek and Sac River like the back of their hands and they knew all the best noodl'n holes.

Quail, squirrel and rabbit hunting were a favorite of theirs. Deer hunting was also a passion. Not just taking a deer but being in the outdoors was his ultimate satisfaction. He never took an animal that he didn't use.

He believed in God and loved his country. He was quite the jerky and winemaker too. His jerky recipe I still use today.

Eugene loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. When he became ill with colon and prostrate cancer, he sold his retirement home near Bona, Missouri to be with his daughter and family in Quincy, Ohio.

He is survived by his daughter, Paula and her husband Bill Foster of Quincy, Illinois; Dan and his wife Janine McConnell of Mooresville, North Carolina; and several grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many friends and extended family.
