Allen J. McCracken, 87, died Wednesday, August 1, at Gold Leaf Convalescent in Ellensburg. He was born February 18, 1897 in Turner, Oregon to John and Clara McCracken.

As a child, Mr. McCracken moved with his family to Kamish, Idaho where he was raised. He was graduated from high school at Lewiston, Idaho and completed requirements for his teaching credential at Lewiston Normal School, Lewiston, Idaho. He served in the United States Navy in World War I.

He married Reeta Olive on May 21, 1921. She preceded him in death in December 1964. In 1965 he married Flossie Mitchell who died in May 1971. Mr. McCracken taught school in Whitstran and Harrah, prior to moving to Ellensburg in 1927. He worked as a logging contractor for Ellensburg Lumber Company, Cascade Lumber Company and Bosie Cascade Corporation. He considered a pioneer logger in the Manastash area, having constructed the majority of the roads that exist in that area today. He also farmed in the Ellensburg area. For the past seven years he lived in Yakima.

He was preceded in death by a son, Loren McCracken in June 1981. Survivors include a son, Marvin M. McCracken of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Florence A. Frye of Ellensburg and Coralie M. Derrick of Bethel, Connecticut; a sister, Esther Dixon of Des Moines; one grandson, seven granddaughters and four great grandchildren.

The deceased requested that no funeral services be held. Burial will be in Terrace Heights Cemetery in Yakima.
