World War II Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Bristol, England, he served as a Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment, British Army. At an attack on a German post on June 3, 1944, near Anzio in Italy, Sergeant Rogers with his men were stopped, 70 meters of their target, by several obstacles and heavy machine-gun fire. When Sergeant Rogers realized the precarious situation of himself and his platoon, he stormed wildly firing with his Thompson machine gun forward. He stormed through the wire and a mine fields and eliminated the crew at the enemy positions. Inspired by this action, his men followed and reached the position of Sergeant Rogers, who was badly wounded and later died to his wounds. For most prestigious gallantry, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross on July 17, 1945.
