Ursula Justine (Dufina) Allen died Friday evening, April 12, 2002, at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey.
Born on Mackinac Island on Oct. 11, 1910, she is the daughter of famed golf professional Frank Dufina and Helen (Beauchamp). She grew up on the island and was the sole member of her graduating class in 1928.
She worked in an island gift shop for 14 summers before taking on the big city of Chicago, where she worked for a year at Marshall Fields as a cashier inspector. After returning to the island, she moved to Petoskey and along with her two sisters took a short nursing course and began work at Little Traverse Hospital.
She transferred to Burns Clinic, where she worked until marrying Charles Ray Allen on June 19, 1948, at Ste. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinac Island. They made their home in Petoskey for the next 54 years.
Ursula was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and the Altar Society, formerly the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by daughter, Sarah Sevener and husband, Allen, of Petoskey; stepson, USAF Ret. Colonel Charles J. Allen and wife, Beverly (Oehrli), of Lakewood, Wash.; granddaughter, Tana Baldwin and husband, Patrick, of Harbor Springs; grandson, Nathan Sevener and his fiancée, Kathy McDonald, of Santa Monica, Calif.; grandson, James Allen and wife, Colleen (Conti), of Westerville, Ohio; granddaughter, Kathy Dafoe, of Sarasota, Fla.; grandson, Mark Allen and wife, Karen (Zumaquero), of Livermore, Calif.; grandson, Jeffrey Allen and wife, Marcie (Morrison), of University Place, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Gwen Malloy and family, Pat Campbell and family, Allen and Claramae Sevener and family, Evelyn and Ken Bare, David and Deanna Przybylski and family, Ron, Jan and Travis Knapp, Carl and Sharon Merklinger, Bob and Barbara Seaver, and Imad and Michelle Mahawilli and family.
She has been preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Allen; sister, Adelaide Palmateer; sister, Rosalie Burger; stepson, James Allen; grandson, Michael Allen; and dear friends, Jim and Peg Griswold. Ursula is also survived by extended family and friends on Mackinac Island.
Funeral service was Wednesday, April 17, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, The Rev. Francis Partridge officiated and burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.
