Addie Aronson dies at 99

Addie J. Aronson, 99, died at 7 a.m. today at Nelson Nursing Home, where she had lived since Feb. 8, 1984.

Services are tentatively set for 11 a.m. Monday at First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Burial will be at New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery near Lockridge. Memorials have been established to First Augustana Lutheran Church or to First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Raymond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aronson was born March 8, 1886 in Packwood, the daughter of Peter (sic. August Peter Carlson) and Kristina (sic. a/k/a Christina) Svenson Carlson. She lived her entire life in Jefferson County and had lived in Fairfield since 1947. On Dec. 17, 1912 at the Lutheran church in Salina, she married Ernest Aronson, who died in January, 1960 (sic. correction: January 26, 1961). A brother also preceded her in death.

Surviving are five sons, Mahlon, Ivan, Alton, all of Davenport, Verdon of Fairfield, Harloan of Bettendorf; three daughters, Fern Martin of Fairfield, Lillian Thornburg of Salem, Evelyn Whiting of San Jose, Calif.; 25 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Aronson was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Society.

Note: A daughter, Evelyn Grace Aronson Irla/Whiting was born Jan. 19, 1923, at home in Four Corners, the daughter of Ernest and Addie Carlson Aronson. She died May 18, 2011 in West Burlington, Iowa. She married Joseph Irla in San Francisco. She married Don Whiting in 1966. He died in 1974. A private family memorial service was to be at a later date at New Sweden Lutheran Church, rural Lockridge. The body was cremated. As/of November 2017 it is uncertain if she has actually been physically buried at that cemetery, so no F/A/G memorial has yet been entered for her. Any clarification as to her burial status would be appreciated.
