PHILIP HITSMAN
93 YEAR OLD VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR SERVED UNDER GRANT
WINCHESTER, Ont., Aug. 17 (Canadian Press). --- Philip Hitsman , 93 year old veteran of the Civil War, is dead. He had lived here for the last Seventy-four years and had long been chief constable of the villiage.
Born at Waddington, N.Y., Mr. Hitsman first enlisted with the Union Army at Concord, N.Y., but was discharged because he was under 18 years of age. Later he reenlisted at De Kalb, N.Y., and served under General Grant. He took part in the battles of Hatch's run, Pebble Farm and Weldon Railroad.
Philip is buried in the Maple Ridge Cemetry, Chesterville, Ontario, Canada
