Funeral for William (Bill) Crowson Beasley, 71, of [address omitted], Lester, will be Thursday, March 18, at 2 p.m., at Salem United Methodist Church. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Beasley died Tuesday, March 16, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in the Salem Community to Coleman Buel and Laura Lou Crowson Beasley. He worked in Detroit, Mich., in construction work and as a truck driver. He returned home in 1964 and worked for Decatur Petroleum Haulers as a driver. He worked as dispatcher and office manager for the Port of Decatur. After retiring he worked part-time for Decatur Transit and A&R Transportation Inc. as a truck driver. He was a life-time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Lester where he served as a trustee and a Sunday School teacher for several years. He also helped build the new Family Life Center. He served as caretaker for New Salem and Salem Cemeteries.
He is survived by his wife, Charlsa Williams Beasley; mother, Laura Lou Beasley, Lester; one daughter, Diane B. Haney, Athens; two sons, Thomas M. Beasley, Lester; William G. Beasley, Pulaski, Tenn.; one sister, Dean B. Greenhaw, Athens; two brothers, Bobby Beasley, Lester; Stanley Beasley, Decatur; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Haney, Will Beasley, Dan Williams, Dr. David Purner, Jared Beasley, Charles Brock, Brad Greenhaw, David Kraus.
