Stephen Alexander Hamilton was born abt 1849 to Eli ‘Spinks’ Hamilton and Frances L Brewer in Southern Division, Randolph County, NC.

The following is a synopsis of his life.
21 October 1850 – he is 1 year old.

15 August 1860 – Living in Western Division, Randolph County. He is age 10

22 Sep 1870 census – age 21, at home with his parents and brother, James.

20 October 1870 - Stephen Alexander Hamilton married Sarah J Gallimore in [likely] Davidson County, North Carolina on October 20, 1870, when she was 20 years old.

12 June 1880 – The Hamilton family is living in Silver Hill Township, Davidson County, NC. Family consists of Stephen, [31]’ Sarah [30]; Jesse E [8]; James W [6]; Ola B [3] and Adolphus [9 mos old]

3 November 1900 Death of Mr. S. A. Hamilton
Mr. S. A. Hamilton, a well-known contractor of Concord, was stricken with paralysis last Friday morning [2 Nov 1900], and died Saturday night [3 Nov 1900] about 7 o’clock. He went to his work as usual Friday morning, but in a short time was in a serious condition. The stroke was gradual, and for some time Mr. Hamilton did not got to his home. It was evident on Saturday that his end was near, and his physician so informed him.

Mr. Hamilton was 51 years old. He had been living in Concord for about ten years, having moved here from Lexington. He was a member of the Baptist church. He was a genial, kind-hearted man and always had a pleasant word when he met anyone. He leaves a wife [Sarah Gallimore] and four children, Messrs Jesse, James and Dolph and Miss Ola Hamilton.

The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon [4 Nov 1900] at the residence by Rev. B. Lacy Hoge, and the interment was made at the cemetery. The following were pall-bearers: Dr. D. D. Johnson, Messrs. Zeb A. Morris, Jno. A. Sims, W. E. DeJarnette, and Mr. Marable.

(Oct 10-Dec 19 1900) "Mr. S.A. Hamilton, a well-known carpenter and contractor and a former resident of Lexington, died at his home at Conrad at 7 o'clock Saturday night (Nov. 3). He was 51 years of age."

Unfortunately, according to obtainable records, Stephen Alexander Hamilton is buried in an unmarked gravesite in the Oakwood Cemetery, Concord, NC.
