Bobby "Fitta" Fitzgerald, a 10 year resident of Winthrop and former longtime resident of Charlestown, died unexpectedly at his home in Winthrop on Saturday, December 11, 2010. He was 80 years old.
Bobby was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1948. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country proudly durin the Korean Conflict. Bobby worked as a Longshoreman on the Boston waterfront for more than 40 years. He retired as a clerk with the International Longshoreman's Union Local # 1066. He was a member of The Halligan Club in Charlestown, Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus, B.P.O.E. Lodge # 1078 of Winthrop and The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Bobby is the husband of the late Grace (Mahoney) Fitzgerald. He is the devoted father of Debbie Kane and her late husband Marty of Winthrop, Christine Kelly and her husband Eddie of Melrose and the late Bobby Fitzgerald. He is the loving grandfather of Aileen Kane and Bobby Kelly. He is the beloved brother of David Fitzgerald and his wife Joan of Mashpee and the late Eleanor Mahoney, Margie McGonagle, Thomas, George and Edward Fitzgerald.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fitta's Funeral on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury.
