OBIT: Mrs. Mayme Sledge PENICK, 92, daughter of the late Dr. J. R. SLEDGE and Mrs. Mary Harris SLEDGE, was born 19 February 1880, in Sweetwater, Alabama, and departed this life Tuesday, 16 January 1973, at 6:40 p.m. at Norton's Memorial Infirmary in Louisville {Jefferson Co., KY}. {She suffered from severe burns in a house fire at her home in Greensburg the first part of February 1973, which proved fatal several weeks later.} She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church at the time of her death. She united in marriage to Mr. Charlie PENICK on 22 October 1907 {in Texas} and he preceded her in death in 1946. Mrs. PENICK is survived by one son {adopted}: Hansford PENICK, Greensburg; one grandson, Charles PENICK, Greensburg; four great-grandchildren: Michael PENICK, Deborah PENICK, Charles Eric PENICK, and Allen McKIBBEN, all of Greensburg. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, 18 Janaury 1973, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in the Greensburg Cemetery. Rev. Terry BISHOP officiated.
