OLSEN, Edna " Wednesday the 10th of August, 2005, Jesus came and carried our mom, Edna Olsen to Paradise. He said to her, "Receive your inheritance because you have put your faith in me."

She was born in Eugene, Oregon, on April 1, 1910, and lived to be 95 years and 4 months of age.

Her parents were of Norwegian descent and had migrated from Valley City, North Dakota, to the Spencer Creek area of Eugene, Oregon, in 1894.

Her father, John Adolph Halderson and mother, Mary Hannah Bjerke each had 11 siblings, most of which lived very close by the homesteads of their parents. Mom had many happy stories to tell about life with all her cousins, aunts and uncles since many were close in age. There was a dance held regularly on the third floor of her grandparents' home. Friends and relatives would come from miles around by horse and buggy, bringing their potluck dish. Someone would play the fiddle and all would dance. Mom loved music and to dance all her life. She said that grandpa taught all the girls how to dance.

Mom had three siblings, Martha, Helmer and Leona who have preceded her in death.

She had two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Dale Miller of Tigard, Oregon, and Carolyn and Gene Kemp of Roseburg, Oregon. She had six grandchildren, Cheryl Miller Reali of Santa Cruz, California; Ron Miller of Maine; Patti Miller Segretto, who was waiting for her in heaven (probably they are talking shop about beauty work), Richard and Randall of Roseburg; Robert of Eugene. Her great-grandchildren are Stephanie Segretto Walker of Kentucky; Emma Miller of Maine; Andrew, Erica and Nicky Kemp, all of Roseburg.

Mom was a hairdresser for over forty years in Eugene, North Bend and Roseburg. After her retirement she was a senior companion for a long time in Eugene and also was the one to look in on various relatives. She was always there for me, my sister or anyone who needed her.

On the day of her stroke in 1992 she had cherries to bring one cousin and another to take to a doctor appointment. She was painting her kitchen cupboards and planning a 65th birthday party for Loretta. She lived another 13 years incapacitated and in the care of others. Much thanks to her special caregivers, Sandy Corliss and especially Jeanne Simpson who gave her excellent care and love for over 11 years.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 750 W. Keady Ct., Roseburg, on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at 6 p.m. There will be a graveside service the following Friday, August 26, 2005, at 2 p.m., in Eugene at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
