Dr James W Akers, 69, died August 19th, 1997. He received his B.S. from Jacksonville State University; Masters and Doctorate from University of Alabama. He was former principal of Emma Sansom High School; headmaster of Westminster Christian School, principal of Litchfield Jr High; retired from Gadsden State Community College as Dean. He served on the Board of Southeastern College, Lakeland, Fla. He served on the Board of Deacons and as secretary of Assembly of God Tabernacle Church; president of the Etowah Food Bank; served on the Board of the Department of Human Resources and the Board of Mental Health Association. He is survived by his wife, Doris Smith Akers; daughter, Melissa Ann O'Bar; brother Marion Akers, Alexander City; and sister, Bettye Pruitt. Funeral at Collier Butler; entombment at Forrest Cemetery.
