A memorial service for James "Jim" Lee Franklin of Bellingham will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Nooksack Valley United Methodist Church in Nooksack, with John Perry officiating. A private, family burial will be in Nooksack Cemetery.

Mr. Franklin died from complications caused by cancer on Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 44.

Born Dec. 25, 1955, to Rod and Geraldine (Stanley) Franklin in Washington, D.C., he attended school there and in the Arlington, Va., area.

Mr. Franklin joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 18 and learned basic electronics and digital logic, troubleshooting and repairing radar systems. In 1978, he was discharged.

In 1981, he moved to Bellingham and met his future wife, Cyndi Williams. They were married in August of 1982.

He loved music and anything to do with the outdoors, including hiking, backpacking and camping. He also loved to grow his own herbs for cooking and medicinal purposes and work in his garden.
