Angeline, aka Angie, was born into the early pioneer family of Daniel Alexander and Margaret Tittle at Porter, Van Buren County, Michigan. She wed Homer Brooks Smith in Berrien County, Michigan on 1 January 1867 and was mother to two children. After her husband's death in May 1913, Angie moved to Chicago, Illinois near her son, Frank D. Smith.
