Mr. Ward was a railroad clerk for CSX before retiring.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Fair Bluff Baptist Church by Dr. Ray Lundy. Burial will be in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife, Faye W. Ward of the home; three sons, Keith Ward of Greensboro, Tim Ward of Huntersville and Joe Ward of Chuluota, Fla.; a daughter, Bonnie W. Wimberley of Burgaw; three brothers, Earl Ward of Portsmouth, Va., Dow Ward of North Charleston, S.C., and George Doug Ward of Sherman, Texas; two sisters, Ruby W. Oestreich of St. Louis, Meredith Mickey Ward Cataffo of Havelock, Ontario; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff.
