He left for Wright County, Missouri some time after 1863 to join other members of the Brasher family. He married Sarah Ann Crider April 12, 1863. They had the following children: Margaret Catherine "Sis", William Henry, Daniel Hudson, Hulda Jane, Francis Marion, James Mitchell (1st), Louisa Annis, Laura Louetta, and John Benson.
