W. Warren Howe, Professor Emeritus of the Colorado School of Mines, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, in Golden. Mr. Howe died Sunday, July 23, at Lutheran Hospital, of a heart attack. The Reverend T.L. Kleen of the Wheat Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted the services. Mr. Howe was born in Pueblo, Colorado, December 31, 1891. He was educated in Colorado Schools and received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 1922. He taught at the University of Colorado untill 1926, and at Yale University from 1926 until 1929. Returning to his home state in 1929, Dr. Howe joined the faculty of the Colorado School of Mines, as a professor in the Chemistry Department. He became head of the department in 1955, and continued in this position until his retirement. During World War 11, Dr. Howe was a member of the Research

Division, Chemical Warfare Service, in Washington. He was actively engaged in research in the chemical-petroleum field, and was the author of numerous papers and articles. Dr. Howe'sprofessional memberships included Sigma Xi, honorary scientific society; the Alph Chi Sigma, chemical fraternity; Phi Beta Kappa, scholastic fraternity; and the Technik Club of Denver. A devotee of sports. Dr. Howe climbed the challenging peaks of Colorado. His consistent work for a new gymnasium for the Mines campus culminated in the construction in recent years. Dr. Howe was married to the former Helen Strange in Boulder, Colorado. Mrs. Howe, two daughters, a brother, and seven grandchildren survive him. His daughters are Mrs. Kathryn Mudge of McKeesport, Pa., and Mrs. Carolyn Coolbaugh of Mount Prospect, Illinois. His brother is Herbert C. Howe of Pueblo.
