St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery Est. Circa 1900. This sign is at the first entrance on Savage Road.

HISTORY:
Mallett is the last name of the family who originally donated the land for a cemetery in 1825 and they named it Mallett Memorial Cemetery, where the family is buried. The original cement pillars with their name is still standing and engraved when you come in the cemetery from Clark Road, which is a dirt road.

By 1900 the Saint Stephen Catholic Church in New Boston, Wayne County, Michigan, took it over since the maintenance was poor as many family cemeteries are not maintained the greatest. They placed their sign on Savage Road, which is paved and is the main road, that reads: St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery Est. Circa 1900.

Today, since it has been known as the St. Stephen Cemetery since 1900...no one in the area, including funeral homes, even know what or where the Mallett Cemetery is located if you were to inquire. It goes by the name of St. Stephen.
