Anna Salls 1924 - 2013 WILBRAHAM - Anna (Dahlberg) Salls, 89, died May 5, 2013. Born in Furudal, Sweden on March 16, 1924, to the late Erik Sigfrid and Anna Olivia (Forslund) Dahlberg, she was educated in Sweden, and learned to speak both German and English. She was married to Russell C. Salls on her birthday March 16, 1946 in Stockholm, Sweden, then arrived in New York City on the 4th of July, 1946 becoming an American citizen on her birthday in 1951. A Wilbraham resident since 1960, Mrs. Salls was active in her community as a member of Wilbraham United Church, Women's Christian Fellowship, Young at Heart Club, Wilbraham Garden Club and the Wilbraham Atheneum Society where she proposed the Memorial Fund for the benefit of the Old Meeting House. She was also a member of the MA Air National Guard Historical Assn. Anna was especially proud of her Swedish heritage and was a member of the Swedish-American cultural organization VASA Order of America, Brage-Iduna Lodge #9 in East Longmeadow, for many years. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Russell Salls, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force who died in 1988. She leaves her devoted daughter Monica Gubala and her husband Joseph, and a beloved granddaughter Maryann Gubala. In Sweden she leaves her brother in law John and his companion Marianne, her niece Karin and nephew Olof. She was predeceased by her sister Majvor Nordqvist. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Anna's Funeral Service on Friday, May 10th at 11:00 am at Wilbraham United Church. Commital Service on Monday, May 13th at 11:15 am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Mrs. Salls to the Wilbraham United Church, 500 Main Street, Wilbraham, MA 01095 or to the Memorial Fund, Atheneum Society of Wilbraham, 450 Main St.,Wilbraham, MA 01095.
