Alexander Pittman was born in Kentucky, the son of Elijah and Sarah Pittman. He married three times:

1st: Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Jones
2nd: Emily Stills
3rd: Francis Rebecca Morrow. He married Francis in 1875.

He had five known children with 1st wife Elizabeth Jones.
