THE PARIS NEWS, July 11, 2006:
"Bill Edward Gordon, 67, of Powderly, died Monday, July 10, 2006 at Dubuis Hospital in Paris. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, in the Chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd Woodard officiating. Burial follows in Forest Chapel Cemetery. The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. He was born March 31, 1939, in Arthur City, to John Edward and Ima Gladys Spalding Gordon. He graduated from Chicota High School and Columbia College. He retired from the United States Army in 1979 with 23 years of service to his country. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. He was also a retired police officer serving as police chief in Leonard and Caddo Mills and as a deputy sheriff for the Cooke and Lamar County Sheriff's departments. He was a member of the Arthur City Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Gordon and one daughter, Yolanda Herriage. He is survived by two children, Pam McManus and her husband, Ted, of Joshua, and Michael Gordon and wife, Vanda, of Powderly; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Lindsay, and Nathaniel Gordon, Rosa Lee Lopez, Eric Dunn, Linda McManus and Jon Carl McManus; his mother, Gladys Gordon of Arthur City; his grandmother, Joyce Spalding of Hugo, Okla., and two sisters, Faye Temple and husband, Terry, and Gail Barber and husband, Kenny, all of Powderly. Pallbearers will be Jim Chadwick, Vance Temple, Clint Barber, Gary Weaver, Junior Vanderburg, and Ed Colvert. Online condolences may be made to the Gordon family by visiting www.fry-gibbs.com."
