John M. Kenoyer was the son of James Kenoyer and Nancy (Stanton) Kenoyer. He grew up in Indiana.

John married Mary Twitchel on 13 Nov 1901 at Versailles, Morgan County, Missouri. By 1920 (U.S. Census), the family moved to Kansas, where they lived in Cherokee County.

John died 08 Feb 1934, at the home of his sister [Martha E. Cardin] in Miami, Oklahoma. The obituary reported that he had been staying at his sister's home for some time for treatments. John was survived by his wife and his son, John Curtis Kenoyer. Burial was in the G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami, Oklahoma. According to Census records, John was a farmer.
