Aldwin Ardean "Stubby" Ellis was born Jan. 14. 1923, in York, Nebraska, the son of Melvin and Olive Ellis. In 1936 he moved to Bend Oregon, where he worked for the Shevlin-Hixon sawmill. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 22, 1943 to Dec. 28, 1945.

Mr. Ellis married Gladys Braaten on March 21, 1946, in York, Nebraska. Later that year, the couple moved to North Bend, Oregon. The family later moved to Portland where he worked at Reynolds Metals Co. for 36 years as a furnace operator, retiring in 1983. The Ellises moved to Canby in 1985.

Mr. Ellis died at his home in Canby, Oregon from Parkinson's disease and hardening of the arteries. He was preceded in death by his son, Corp Aldwin Ardean "Sparky" Ellis Jr., who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.
